You have so much love for every living thing, Marsi. My arms are wrapped around you in your sadness. I’ve worried about when this day would come. And your words remind me that pain and joy can coexist in the same moment. Wishing you always more joy than pain.

I had a chicken hatch in my hand from a school project when I was in 5th grade. She thought I was her mother. She followed me everywhere. I asked my parents if I could take her home and they agreed. We only had her for one year as an animal got into her pen but I can tell you she was the best chicken. She always wanted to be held, she was affectionate and friendly with everyone and she gave me some of my fondest memories. I will always cherish that year that I spent with her. Her name was Daisy.

I am so sorry for your loss. I just lost our last flock member, Emmie, a few weeks ago. She was 13 years old. She was a true survivor. When the second to last flock member, Coco, passed, we ended up bringing Emmie inside often to hang with our family and dogs. Cold nights she slept inside in a warm crate. We spent lots of time giving her companionship outside too. It’s amazing how much you can bond with a chicken. I still cry over many of the ones I lost. They all now rest in graves under our rose bushes… together. It’s nice to see others feel such connection to their pet chickens. May Peanut rest peacefully.

Thank you for letting us into the world of Peanut, Marsi. Although today is the first day I learned of Peanut, I can feel the love you've given her while reading your words. The love for/of a bird is very unique and long lasting, as I learned during the years I lived with my lovebird, Beastie. As I dismantled Beastie's final aviary (the one that occupied half of my office), I found many a feather which always reminded of the 15 years of lovely times I had with my 50 gram ball of terror. Stay strong and always remember the good times!

This warmed my heart and brought tears to my eyes. I’m very sorry for your loss, Peanut seemed like an awesome friend. When my dad died in 2016, we had just recently bought a Corgi(Holly) and she absolutely played a huge part in helping me get through what was the toughest time in my life. Family can come from many places!

May Peanut rest in peace. I had pet bantam chickens as a child, and the longest lived of them made it to almost 20. They are remarkable creatures and I hope to see them all again on the other side.
